Savannah

Jimy Carter's Boyhood home

Jimmy Carter's boyhood home

Jimmy Carter's family store

Jimmy Carter's family store

The narrative inside said that Jimmy never completed a meal as someone always came to the store during supper.

A better shot at the damage

Fort Pulaski, Savannah Georgia

The damage was caused during the Civil War. After the Union took over the fort, it was turned into a prison.

Tibbee Island Lighthouse

I climbed to the top of a 154 foot lighthouse and lived!!!

Tibbee Island Lighthouse

Yep, all the way to the top.

Tibbee Island Lighthouse

Lighthouse Keepers Cottage. It was pretty cool. They had pictures of one of the keeper's daughters getting married.

Johnny Mercer's grave

He wrote Moon River, Ach-cent-uate the Positive and Summer Wind

The Aiken Family Plot

In the book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, a lady takes John Berendt to the cemetary to have martinis on this grave sight. The bench is actually a head stone.

A house on one of the Savannah squares

I think George Washington slept there

Savannah Cemetery

During the Civil War, Union soldiers camped on this cemetary and broke down a number of headstones. Not having good records of were they were located, the townspeople mounted them on the wall.

The Lady Chablis's house

I am not sure if this is the actual house, but it was the house in the movie. I almost got attacked by two dogs, but they ended up just licking my hand (everything is so nice in Savannah).

The Dog Fountain

This fountain is just for dogs. If you push a button, water pours into the lower cups for Fido to drink out of.

Jingle Bell Church

The guy who wrote Jingle Bells preached here.

One of Savannah's squares

When Savannah was laid out it originally had 24 squares. Today 21 survive.

A Gazebos in one of Savannah's squares

The tour guide said a lot of weddings occur in this gazabo. Sometimes 4 weddings are held in one day!!!

Mercer House

This house was originally built for General Hugh Mercer (Grandfather of Johnny Mercer) but was the home of Jim Williams. Jim Williams was the man that killed Billy Hanson, which was part of the subject of Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

The Pirate House

Note how crooked the door and windows are.

The Cotton Exchange

At one point all cotton traded in the United States went through this exchange.

The Dutch Bell

A gift from the Dutch

Savannah City Hall

Huge!!!

The Mulberry

This is where I stayed.

The Waving Girl

This statue is actually of a real lady. For fifty years this lady waved her dish towel at passing ships. It was a bad omen if she did not wave at your ship.
