It was a few months before I reached the northern most Mission in Sonoma. It was a cloudy day at Mission San Francisco de Solano. Mission Solano was dedicated on July 4, 1823 and was built to protect this area from Russian encroachment from Fort Ross (more history). In reality the two sites became trading partners.
